NEW Blending Facility Now Open

Thomas Bell are the UK’s largest independent fertiliser importer and the opening of the new blending plant will now allow Thomas Bell to create bespoke fertiliser blends and increase their range of products it can offer to the market place.

The state of the art plant, which opened in February this year includes the latest precision measurement technology alongside a multi hopper conveyor system; this ensures that each bag produced contains the exact analysis required for the specific blend.

The plant also boasts a double screening system to ensure optimum product quality and consistency throughout the year. All blends are oil coated to provide a dust-free and free flowing product, assisting shelf-life and spread ability.

The operation is run completely undercover with 400,000 sq ft of dedicated facilities; the bulk straights are kept in entirely separate bunkers before being weighed via individual hoppers onto a conveyer system. Once blended, the finished product is then bagged and stored fully undercover to ensure maximum quality regardless of weather conditions. All bags are loaded onto lorries undercover.

The recent investment will compliment Thomas Bell’s existing activities at Immingham where they will continue to import Pulan and Lithan Ammonium Nitrate, Granular and Prilled Urea, MOP and various other fertiliser grades.

For more information on the blending operations and products, please visit Thomas Bell at The Cereals Event on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th June on plot 746.

ABP Commercial Manager Chris Vause said: “ABP has a long-standing relationship with Thomas Bell and this increased business is extremely beneficial to the port.

Charity we are supporting - Pancreatic Cancer UK
Pancreatic cancer is the fifth deadliest cancer in the UK and every day, 24 people lose their battle with the disease.  The majority of patients will only have survived 3-6 months since diagnosis.

Currently, only 3% of patients will survive the disease due to late diagnosis and lack of effective treatments.  This is why raising awareness of the disease and its symptoms is absolutely vital to drive earlier diagnosis and ultimately increase a patient’s chance of survival.

We are dedicated to raise awareness of this terrible disease through our fundraising efforts. Please show your support for Pancreatic Cancer UK and to Thomas Bell and pledge your sponsorship today through Virgin Money Giving

Important changes to the Fertiliser Industry Assurance Scheme (FIAS)

Date: 22nd June 2016

The Agricultural Industry Confederation (AIC) have recently reissued the Fertiliser Industry Assurance Scheme (FIAS)

EU Regulation 98/2013 on explosive precursors, places greater responsibility on the marketing and use of explosive precursos to reduce their accessibility to the general public and the obligation for operators to report and suspicious activity relating to fertiliser.

From February 2017, the revised standard requires that companies transporting fertiliser greater than 16% nitrogen are FIAS Certified or are formally approved by the certification body - KIWA PAI before use.

Thomas Bell Fertiliser Importers will therefore only be employing transport companies that are FIAS certified and would encourage transport companies to begin the process as soon as possible.

For more information, please visit the AIC website

Top Five Tips to Keep Fertiliser Safe

Date: 4th December 2014

Top Five Tips to Keep Fertiliser Safe

A new five point security plan has been launched to help farmers keep their fertiliser safe and out of the hands of potential terrorists.

Large amounts of fertiliser are currently being delivered to farms across the UK and Lincolnshire Police has advised anyone who stores or handles fertiliser to consider its security, and the risk of it falling into the wrong hands.

Recent global events have raised the UK threat level from international terrorism to “severe – an attack is highly likely”.

The National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) together with the Home Office, Agricultural Industries Confederation (Fertiliser Industry Assurance Scheme), Assured Food Standards (Red Tractor), Defra, HSE and the NFU has produced a new Fertiliser Security Five Point Plan (This new plan replaces and consolidates the information contained in the previous ‘Ten Point Plan’).

Fertiliser Security Five Point Plan

1. Wherever possible use a Fertiliser Industry Assurance Scheme (FIAS) approved supplier.

2. Wherever possible keep in a secure area such as a building or sheeted away from public view

3. Carry out regular stock check and report any loss to the Police immediately (call 101)

4. Avoid leaving fertiliser in a field overnight – never leave fertiliser in the field for a long period of time

5. Remember it is illegal to sell ammonium nitrate without the correct documentation.

Charity Cycle to Cereals 2014

On Sunday 8th June Thomas Bell Fertiliser Importers and SJS Agriculture biked an epic 154 miles from Brigg, North Lincolnshire to Cereals 2014, Chrishall Grange, Nr. Duxford, Cambridgeshire – the cycle happened over two days for charity.

The participants were Andrew Major Managing Director, Matt Dawson Director, Alison Hindle Marketing Manager and Simon Sands Managing Director of SJS Agriculture Ltd.

The charity they raised monies for was LRSN (Lincolnshire Rural Support Network) who provide pastoral and practical support to farming and rural people during periods of anxiety, stress and problems relating to their families and businesses. For LRSN no problem is too large or too small, too complex or too simple. Every year they support over 100 farming and rural families with problems ranging from debt to tenancy, from single farm payment to health.  Alongside practical help they provided support with the associated emotional stress.

Alison Twiddy, Project Manager for LRSN said “It is sometimes easy to overlook the fact that farmers and rural businesses can hit difficult times. Though finance and business issues are some of the areas where we are asked to help, significant numbers of people who approach us are grappling with emotional and family issues that can affect their businesses. Family break up, ill health, sorting out succession can all present as insurmountable problems but LRSN are always here to help and we are delighted that Thomas Bell and Sons Ltd chose us as their charity for this challenging event!”

Main sponsors of the charity bike ride are Diamond Fertilisers, who kindly sponsored the teams clothing.

Andrew Major, Managing Director of Thomas Bell & Sons, commented, “As part of the agricultural supply chain it is a great way for our business to promote and support this farming charity. It was a great challenge to take part in. Thank you to everyone who showed their support and help raise £3140.00 for LRSN''
